Scholarship Deadline Edges Nearer
Friday, May 02, 2008

By Rose S. Prinzi

Making a decision about a college is daunting for graduating seniors and their parents. The cost of attending is even more so. There is tuition, housing costs, books, and dining accounts to consider. The list seems endless and overwhelming. However, through the years, many Chautauqua Region residents have looked to the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation for assistance with these college costs.

June 1st is the deadline for all high school seniors to submit an online scholarship application for CRCF’s general high school scholarship process. The Foundation will award over $800,000 in scholarship assistance this year.  Most of this scholarship assistance comes through the Foundation’s general scholarship process.

As a result of a very efficient process, graduating high school students need only to submit one online application with the supporting paperwork to CRCF by June 1, 2008.  All the necessary instructions for the process can be found on the CRCF website at www.crcfonline.org.
Applying students must have graduated from a Chautauqua County high school.

At the website, click on the “Scholarships” link. The site will guide students through the process. If students do not have access to a home computer, online applications can be completed at their high school guidance office or their school or public library – wherever the student can access online capabilities.

After an online application has been submitted, the CRCF staff will begin a review process and present all applications to the scholarship committees in the fall of the year. Once the committees have reviewed the applications, through a completely independent process, awards will be recommended to the Board of Directors of the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation.    In November, all applicants will be notified of the results. Scholarship awards will be available in January for the spring semester.

With the weather warming, summer and graduations approaching, it becomes more
difficult to focus and remember deadlines. Yet, keep your eyes set on June 1st for the Community Foundation’s general high school scholarship deadline. If you have any questions regarding this process or on any of the steps needed to complete your application, contact the Foundation.
The Foundation staff is available to help no matter what your need. Do not hesitate to to call us. The Foundation takes great pride in assisting area students, so let CRCF help you and apply for a scholarship!
