Every year, over 1,000 area students apply for scholarship assistance from the Community Foundation. This is a number the Foundation would love to see increase so that more area students can benefit from this assistance. However, any scholarship process can be perceived as complicated to a first-time applicant. That is why the Community Foundation holds the “CRCF EXPO: Funding an Education” every year, to help students plan and better understand just how easy it can be to acquire some financial assistance.
This year marks the 14th CRCF EXPO, at which Foundation representatives provide information and direction as to how the CRCF scholarship and financial aid process works. The EXPO, which is held in conjunction with Jamestown Community College’s (JCC) College and Career Night, gives students and their parents the opportunity to sit through a simple tutorial on the scholarship process and ask any relevant questions that may arise. This tutorial covers both the scholarship application form and everything you need to know about financial aid. This year’s EXPO will be held on Tuesday, October 17th, at JCC’s Katharine Jackson Carnahan Center, with two sessions being held at 6:00 PM and 7:45 PM. Admission to both the College and Career Night and the CRCF EXPO is free and open to the public.
To be more specific about what you can learn at the EXPO, Community Foundation representatives provide detailed presentations that include CRCF scholarship facts, application timelines/deadlines, how to read and fill out a scholarship application, how to access all relevant information online, and how to read and fill out all financial aid forms. The EXPO also provides the Community Foundation with the opportunity to distribute the 2007-2008 scholarship applications for the first time.
The CRCF EXPO is dually beneficial for both high school and college students so, no matter what level of education you are attaining, there is something to be learned. In either case, Community Foundation representatives will be available to answer any questions or concerns that you might have throughout the course of the night.
If you plan on attending the CRCF EXPO, take the opportunity to also visit JCC’s Annual College and Career Night. This year’s College and Career Night will be held in JCC’s Physical Education Complex. College and Career night showcases many different colleges and career fields, so that students can learn more about their professional and educational interests. Each college and career field will feature a display table, with representatives to answer questions about the school or the professional field in which you might have an interest. This allows students and parents to research many different colleges and also helps students gain knowledge and understanding of specific professions.
If you are looking for some financial assistance for college or wish to research future career opportunities, the CRCF EXPO and JCC’s College and Career Night are good places to start. If you would like more information regarding the CRCF EXPO, contact the Community Foundation staff at 661-3390. Remember, the date of the EXPO is October 17th. The Foundation staff looks forward to seeing you there!
