Spring is the Season of Scholarships

With scholarship season now in full swing, the Community Foundation has many unique opportunities upcoming that a wide range of Chautauqua region students can take advantage of. Whether you are currently a high school senior, college student, or an adult wishing to further your education, there are seven special scholarships over the next two months that might be able to provide assistance in your particular area of interest:
 
Chautauqua County Veterinary Medical Society Scholarship: To assist students who are graduates of Chautauqua County schools and are pursuing a career in veterinary medicine. Applicants must be enrolled in a veterinary college. Awards will be based primarily on promise of success in the field and demonstration of deep interest in the profession. Deadline for application: May 1st.
 
Ben Spitale Memorial Labor Scholarship: To assist a student who is or has a parent or guardian who is a member, in good standing, in a union of the Jamestown Area Labor Council, who is ambitious, industrious, has a sense of community and financial need. Deadline for application: May 1st.      
 
Robert “Bobby” Guy Pollino II Memorial Baseball Scholarship: To assist a Jamestown High School senior who is a member of the varsity baseball team. Deadline for application: May 15th.     
 
Kathy Kardish Wilson Memorial Educational Scholarship: To be eligible you must be a mother of school-aged children; community-minded and considerably involved in at least one community organization; part of a two income family where tuition would be a burden on the family; able to complete the educational and career goals set for yourself; giving of yourself and your talents to help others reach their potential. Deadline for application: May 25th.
 
Jamestown Sister Cities Affiliation Committee Scholarship: To assist students or teachers who are planning educational experiences abroad or to foreign students or teachers coming to our area for educational reasons. All applicants must be from the Chautauqua region or coming to the Chautauqua region for training. Deadline for application: June 1st.
 
United Association of Plumbers and Steamfitters Scholarship: To provide assistance to a high school graduate or GED holder that is interested in and has the physical capabilities to enter the plumbing, heating, air conditioning/refrigeration or temperature control occupations. All applicants must have graduated from a Chautauqua County high school. Deadline for application: June 1st.  
Ross Grange #305 Scholarship: To assist a student who is pursuing a career in agriculture or life sciences and/or vocational fields. Applicant must be from Falconer, Frewsburg, Cassadaga Valley, Bemus Point or Southwestern Central High Schools.  Deadline for application: June 1st
 
All of the special, spring scholarship applications lead up to the “big deadline” that also occurs on June 1st…CRCF’s general high school scholarship application process. Not long after the general high school process comes the general college application process. Continue reading this article in the coming weeks to learn more about both of these general processes and how to go about applying for these scholarships.
