Chautauqua Region Community Foundation Supports Diabetes Education

Currently, one in ten Americans has Type 2 diabetes. Unfortunately, if new cases develop as projected, its prevalence could double or triple over the next forty years. In the United States, one in three people will have Type 2 diabetes by 2050 if current trends continue. These projections highlight the need for interventions to keep the number of new cases from climbing.

That is why so many students come to the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation for help. To many students, the Community Foundation is synonymous with the word scholarships. Most of this scholarship assistance comes through the Foundation's general scholarship process, which is, once again, on the horizon. Community Foundation Fund Established by Chi Sigma Chi Benefits Boys & Girls Club of Jamestown

A donation to the Winifred Crawford Dibert Boys & Girls Club of Jamestown was recently made from the Chi Sigma Chi Remembrance Fund, which is administered by the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation. The fund was established by the alumni of the Chi Sigma Chi Fraternity which existed at Jamestown High School from 1926 to 1975.

Over $800,000 in financial assistance was awarded to nearly 700 recipients for the Chautauqua Region
Community Foundation's 2010-2011 Scholarship season. That's right, over $800,000, and now is your chance to benefit from the funds available for the 2011-2012 Scholarship season. On March 1, 2011, scholarship applications became available online at
www.crcfonline.org. Guidance counselors at all Chautauqua County schools are also in the process of being updated on the guidelines involved with the application process.

Fund in Honor of Fallen Soldier Established at Chautauqua Region Community Foundation

In the hope of creating light from a dark day, the family of a local soldier who recently died in the line of duty has established a Scholarship Fund at the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation. Lance Corporal Aaron Swanson, a 2007 Southwestern graduate, was killed by a roadside bomb February 7, 2011. Those who knew Aaron best said he had a smile that could light up any room. It is those memories that the Swanson's, the Southwestern Central School District, and the Community Foundation hope to perpetuate with the LCpl. Aaron M. Swanson Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Jamestown Elks Donate Dictionaries to Local Students

The Community Foundation offices were chosen as the sight for the meeting as they are currently accepting donations on behalf of the corporation and placing them in the "Friends of the Lawson Center Fund".
