Randolph and the McLaughlin Family Fund
Wednesday, July 09, 2008
By Rose S. Prinzi
It’s summertime and local organizations are offering wonderful activities. In Jamestown, there are concerts in Allen Park, summer recreation programs in many of the playgrounds, baseball at the Babe Ruth World Series and downtown events all summer long. These activities and many more are, in part, made possible by the generous donors to the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation.
This year, the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation is very pleased to have the opportunity to offer grants to our neighbors to the east – the Towns of Randolph and East Randolph.
Last year, the Board of Directors of the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation approved and established the John Edward McLaughlin Family Fund. This fund was set-up through a bequest from the estate of the McLaughlin family and designated to provide financial assistance to religious and/or non-religious charitable activities in the Randolph, New York area.
The distribution of awards began with the formation of a grant selection committee comprised of Randolph citizens. The deadline for the first round of funding was May 9
th
. Through a competitive grant application process, this grant committee made their final recommendations to the Community Foundation’s Board of Directors. On June 24
th
, awards were announced and checks were distributed to the various deserving organizations.
The first round of awards were given to: Randolph Historical Society for the purchase of material to be used for collection preservation; Randolph Fire Co., Inc., to purchase smoke detectors for local distribution; United Presbyterian Church of Randolph for the Kids’ Klub program; Randolph Area Community Development Corporation for Camp Weeden and for Toymakers of Randolph for materials.
The deadline for the next round of grant applications is September 15
th
. Applications are available at the Randolph Village Offices or at the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation’s website (
www.crcfonline.org
). When completed, mail to CRCF, 418 Spring Street, Jamestown, NY, 14701
Yes, summer brings many wonderful diversions; but don’t miss this opportunity to submit an application on behalf of a deserving Randolph organization. The process is not complicated and grant decisions are made quickly. For more information about the above grant opportunity or the Community Foundation, call 661-3390.
