Have you made plans to attend today’s Labor Day Festival at Bergman Park? For the past 28 years, the City of Jamestown Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department has sponsored this event, which allows the community to join together for a day of musical entertainment, fun with friends and ends with an awe-inspiring display of fireworks.

 

The City of Jamestown Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department is one of the many organizations who have benefited from the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation’s Field of Interest Funds.  A Field of Interest grant is made possible by matching a donor’s interest with a specific organization or program.  It has been the Foundation’s objective to make the grant process quick and easy so good projects are not left unfunded due to a burdensome application process.

 

The City Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department applied for a grant through our Field of Interest grant process. After review from the CRCF’s volunteer committee, a match was made with an existing fund and an award was granted for the Labor Day Festival.

 

It seems as though the Festival organizers haven’t missed a thing. There is something for everyone. Beginning the day, there is the Chautauqua Striders Dan Feather Memorial 5K Run/Walk. An arts and crafts show is scheduled to open at 11:00 AM.  At 1:00 PM, the entertainment begins “Under the Big Top” with local musical groups offering a wide variety of music throughout the afternoon and evening hours. Other activities being featured include: Bingo, magician acts, dance exhibition, children’s games, the landing of Starflight (with an opportunity for an “up-close” view of the helicopter), karaoke, Harvey the Balloon Man and the presentation of the George Ritzer Labor Award.

 

All of the above are made possible through the work of the City of Jamestown employees and community volunteers.  The Chautauqua Region Community Foundation belongs to the group who has, through the years, granted the City funds to sponsor this special event.  So, as you are enjoying the day at Bergman Park, remember all the hard work and effort that goes into having such a wonderful event in our own backyard.

 

The Foundation has several types of opportunities for grants including Community Service Funds, Designated/Agency Funds, Donor-Advised Funds and, like the grant assisting the Labor Day Festival, an award from the Field of Interest Funds.
