To many people in the Chautauqua Region, the Community Foundation has become synonymous with the word “scholarships”. This is especially true of local students and their parents. Last year, the Community Foundation awarded over $750,000 in scholarships to local college students. With over 200 active scholarship funds, the Community Foundation certainly makes an impact on educational funding.
Inevitably, students and parents have questions about the scholarship process; and there is no better place to get answers than at the “Funding an Education” workshop.
Jamestown Community College will be sponsoring their annual College and Career Night on Tuesday, October 21st, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. In conjunction with this event, JCC and CRCF have partnered to present the “Funding an Education” workshop. This workshop will be held at JCC’s Katharine Jackson Carnahan Center. Duplicate workshops are scheduled for 6:00 PM and 7:15 PM. Laurie Vorp, JCC’s Director of Financial Aid, will present an introduction to college financial planning. Lisa Lynde, CRCF’s Program Officer, will focus on CRCF’s scholarship process and financial opportunities through the Foundation. Admission to both JCC’s College and Career Night and “Funding an Education” workshops are free and open to the public.
Mrs. Lynde and other Foundation representatives will be on hand to address specific information which will be useful to students and their families when applying for a CRCF scholarship. The presentation will explain CRCF’s new online scholarship submission process and how to apply. Additionally, it will include information on CRCF scholarship facts, application timelines and other requirements to fully complete an application for a scholarship.
The “Funding an Education” workshop is designed to benefit any individual seeking scholarship assistance, whether as a high school student who will be entering college for the first time or as a college student with years of higher education already completed. In either case, Community Foundation representatives will be available to answer any questions or concerns one may have throughout the course of the night.
While on campus, visit JCC’s Physical Education Complex. It will showcase a variety of colleges and careers. Each college and career field features a display table, with representatives to answer questions about the school or career interest.
The process of selecting a college and seeking financial aid can be a complicated and daunting process. Make plans on attending JCC’s College and Career Night and the “Funding an Education” workshop. These events may help guide you and your family through the process and may answer questions about college financial assistance and career options. Join JCC and the Community Foundation staff on October 21st. We’ll be looking forward to seeing you there!
