Russell E. Diethrick, Jr., of Jamestown, New York, will be presented with the 2001 John D. Hamilton Community Service Award at a recognition dinner to be held at the Chautauqua Institution's Athenaeum Hotel on Thursday, June 7, 2001 at 7:15 P.M.  The Chautauqua Region Community Foundation presents the award annually to one individual in recognition of their dedication, leadership and support in furthering community spirit and enhancing the quality of life in the Chautauqua Region.

Diethrick, who served on the board of the Community Foundation from 1989 through 1999, has been synonymous with the term "community service" in Jamestown. Over the years, he has been involved with a large number of civic, service and charitable organizations in the community, giving generously of his time to promote the enrichment of Jamestown and the surrounding areas.

Due to his level of commitment to community service, Russ Diethrick has been no stranger to recognition and awards. Indeed, Russ has been publicly acknowledged for his community-mindedness at least 25 times, including the naming of the former College Stadium in Jamestown to Russell E. Diethrick, Jr. Park.

"It is an honor, for both the Community Foundation and myself, to present the 2001 John D. Hamilton Community Service Award to Russell E. Diethrick, Jr.", stated Max R. Pickard, President of the Community Foundation.  "For years, he has been involved in wide variety of efforts that deal with many different issues - each impacting the quality of life in our community. The leadership and personal commitment that Russ Diethrick has demonstrated make him a natural choice for this year's award."

Diethrick and his wife, the former June Christensen, live in the City of Jamestown. Russ currently works as the Community Development Officer for the Jamestown Savings Bank, while his wife is employed by Hanson Sign of Falconer.
