Nicholson To Be Honored For Service

Harry B. Nicholson Jr., a local industrialist and civic leader, will be presented the John D. Hamilton Community Award for his community service at a dinner Feb. 15 in Jamestown Holiday Inn.

Sponsored by the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, the award will be presented to Nicholson because he represents leadership, dedication and support that has furthered community spirit and enhanced the quality of life in the Chautauqua region.

A native of Kentucky, Nicholson moved to Bemus Point in 1990 to begin work as chairman and chief executive officer of Dowcraft Corp. in Falconer.

Nicholson has been active in the following organizations:  Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce, as president and director; the Manufacturer's Association of Jamestown Area, campaign chairman; United Way of Southern Chautauqua County, director; the Jamestown Area Labor Management Committee, director; and he has served on the WCA Community Advisory Council.  He has also been director of the Private Industry Council, and was a founding board member of JOBS Inc.

Daniel Barufaldi, newly-appointed president and CEO of JOBS Inc., will be guest speaker.  The award dinner is open to the public by reservation.  The $25 charge will cover dinner and a donation to a vocational scholarship fund in honor of Nicholson.
