Randy Burkholder of Clymer has been named by Chautauqua Region Community Foundation as 1993 recipient of its Axel W. Carlson Award.
It involves a plaque and $1,000, with the presentation to be made by Chautauqua County Executive Andrew W. Goodell at 3 p.m. next Friday in Clymer Community Building, with a reception to follow.
The award recognizes an individual for community service without expectation of honor or financial reward.
Burkholder is a dairy farmer who was cited for the time and effort he has given for many years to "the propagation of ideas and programs, primarily directed at the youth of the area."
He is credited as instrumental in initiating the "Impact" program, along with assisting with "Kid's Day, Prom-nite Parties" and other youth activities.
Burkholder's most recent project involves assisting with fund raising and construction of a memorial calendar sign at Clymer Central School. It was noted the marquee was devoted to the memory of many loved ones in the Clymer area.
The announcement of Burkholder's selection to receive the Carlson Award said: "He gives of himself, always listening and helping to find caring services for those in need. He has helped young and old alike in many untold instances."
It went on to say of the award ceremony and reception, "This hour is set aside so that we may salute Randy Burkholder for his tireless efforts toward assuring a better life for us all."
The award program and reception is public.
