...the Next Decade
Monday, April 19, 2010

By Rose S. Prinzi

Recently, the Washington Times published an article titled A Decade of Change, Alphabetically by Jocelyn Noveck of Associated Press.  In it, she lists the various changes that had taken place during the first decade of this century.  The number of noted changes was remarkable.  This next decade will probably be no different.  In fact, it may even have more changes as technology advances exponentially.

As the market’s recovery is anticipated, the ripple effect from the recent economic downturn continues to have implications on our community.  As the World Turns – The Next Decade is a continuing education seminar scheduled for Tuesday, May 4th, to address changes we have witnessed already. The Chautauqua Region Community Foundation will be co-sponsoring this free seminar to be held at The Robert H. Jackson Center.

This seminar will address a variety of legal and accounting issues professionals will be facing in this decade.  Topics to be covered are: Business Ownership Exits - “Strategies to Maximize Value;” How to Successfully Defend Against a Mortgage Foreclosure Action - and WIN; An Update on Bonds and Charitable Gift Annuities and What’s New in Surrogate’s Court and Related Practice. Concluding the day’s events will be guest speaker Steve Tasker, a former Buffalo Bills player and CBS Sports Analyst.

The half-day session will begin with Gregory L. Peterson, President of The Robert H. Jackson Center, welcoming the attendees.  Presenters will include:  Thomas P. Benson, CPA, CMAP, CVA, CFFA, the Managing Director of the Vineyard Group, LLC; the Honorable Joseph Gerace; Arthur N. Bailey, Esq.; Richard E. Dixon, Chief Financial Officer, Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency; Randall J. Sweeney, Executive Director, Chautauqua Region Community Foundation; Michael B. Engdahl, JD, CFP; and the Honorable Stephen W. Cass.

The featured luncheon speaker, Steve Tasker, is a 13-year veteran of the Buffalo Bills and one of the NFL’s greatest special teams players of all time. As a five-time All-Pro selection, he was a key component of the Bills’ four consecutive AFC Championship teams (1991-94). In August 2000, he was voted by the 36 Pro Football Hall of Fame to the NFL’s All-Time team as its special teams player; and, in 2007, he became the 24th person inducted into the Bills Wall of Fame. Tasker, a Buffalo Bills 50th Anniversary Team honoree, co-hosts NFL Insider; and, since 1998, he has been a game analyst for THE NFL ON CBS.

Appreciation is extended to all those sponsors who are making this event possible. The major sponsors include: Buffamante Whipple Buttafaro, P.C.; Chautauqua Region Community Foundation; Phillips Lytle, LLP; The Robert H. Jackson Center; Chautauqua Abstract Company; Vineyard Group, LLC; Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency; and West Herr New York.
