Honoring the "Greatest Generation"
Friday, November 12, 2010
November 9, 2010- A fund to honor the "Greatest Generation" has recently been established through the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation. The designated fund-which was created through a private donation to benefit the Robert H. Jackson Center in Jamestown, NY-recognizes the imperative need to remember and memorialize the amazing sacrifices, triumphs, and patriotism of the parents of the "Baby Boomers." This was a generation that grew up in the United States during the deprivation of the Great Depression. They fought during WWII for ideals and basic human liberties that many in the world can take for granted in the present day, and established a seemingly utopic American society that most of us can simply look back on as "the good old days." This nation rose to become a superpower through the sweat, blood, imagination, and perseverance of these young men and women, many of whom are no longer with us. They were our beloved fathers, mothers, aunts, uncles or grandparents, and each have a story of personal greatness which should be remembered and honored.
Named the "Salute to the Greatest Generation Fund," this endowment will support educational programming, exhibits and special events at the Jackson Center that honor the "Greatest Generation." To contribute to this fund-in recognition of a loved one, to memorialize someone you have admired, or to support remembering this fine generation to which we owe so much-please contact the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation at 716-661-3390.The Robert H. Jackson Center's mission is to advance the legacy of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Jackson-a member of the "Greatest Generation" who prosecuted the major Nazi war criminals following WWII at the International Military Tribunal (IMT) trial at Nuremberg-through education and exhibits, and by pursuing the relevance of his ideas for future generations. The Center is located at 305 East Fourth Street, Jamestown, NY. Tours are available from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., Monday - Friday and from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Saturdays. E-mail us at
