Chautauqua Region Community Foundation Awards Over $800,000 to Local Students
Monday, December 13, 2010

Chautauqua Region Community Foundation Program Officer Lisa Lynde recently met with the Foundation's Board of Directors, and announced that $813,252 in financial assistance was awarded to 678 recipients for the 2010-2011 Scholarship season.

Foundation Executive Director Randall Sweeney said 764 students applied for scholarships, meaning over 88% of those who applied received some form of financial help.

"That is an amazing statistic, and one that we have not seen in recent years," Sweeney said. "The average size of each award was just under $1,200, and that is money these students put toward the all important goal of furthering their education."

While the 2010-2011 scholarship cycle may be winding down, officials within the Community Foundation are preparing for the 2011-2012 cycle.

Starting March 1, 2011, applications will become available, and guidance counselors at all Chautauqua County schools will be updated on the process and given guidelines on the application process. Students need to complete the application by June 1, 2011.

"By visiting the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation's website, www.crcfonline.org, after March 1st, applicants will be instantly given access to the forms and documents to complete their scholarship application," Sweeney said.

If you need any further assistance, please contact Lisa Lynde at 661-3392 or e-mail her at llynde@crcfonline.org.
