Braw Caddie Clan Fund Awards Annual Scholarship
Tuesday, June 07, 2011
Members of the Braw Caddie Clan gathered at Moon Brook Country Club recently to announce this year's winner of the "Stanley A. Weeks Braw Caddie Clan Award for Excellence Fund". The Fund, which was recently renamed in honor of its creator Stanley Weeks, was established at the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation as remembrance for and in honor of the former Jamestown High School fraternity.
The original ideals of the Braw Caddie Clan were to draw out the best traits and character from each of its members. The fraternity at Jamestown High School was a proving ground for young men who were fitting themselves for life's care, struggles, joys and happiness. The Stanley A. Weeks Braw Caddie Clan Award for Excellence Fund was established to recognize and remember these ideals and award young individuals who exemplify them.
This is the 6th year that a scholarship award has been made from the Fund, and the recipient this year is Joseph Campion of Jamestown High School.
Joe Campion was selected to receive the award based on his numerous academic and athletic accomplishments. Joe is Valedictorian of the Class of 2011, with a cumulative G.P.A. of 98.7455. He also attended classes at Jamestown Community College, where he received 13 credits and maintained a 4.0 G.P.A. Following graduation, Joe will be attending M.I.T.
On the football field, Joe excelled and was named a NY State Class AA Football Scholar Athlete in 2010. He also played varsity basketball for Jamestown. Off the field and basketball court, Joe is a member of the Honor Society, Key Club, and has been an Alter Server for SS Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church.
The Braw Caddie Clan Award for Excellence Fund was established at the Community Foundation by Stanley Weeks in 2006. The Braw Caddie Clan held over 600 members during the course of its existence. The organization came into being on March 25, 1930. The four Founders of the Clan were Irvin Wesley Ross, George Joseph Paquin, Walter Colley Ross and Stanley Allan Weeks.
