Community Foundation’s Brenda L. Morrow Memorial Scholarship Fund Benefits Two Students
Wednesday, July 06, 2011
Brenda Morrow was brought up to believe that knowledge between different cultures helps to bridge the gap which so often causes fear and prejudice among people. Her father, Keith Morrow, was an active member of the Jamestown Rotary Club, which supports exchange programs.
In 1985, shortly after returning from visiting her Japanese Exchange sister, Brenda's life was tragically cut short in a boating accident on Chautauqua Lake. After her death, Brenda's family decided to honor her by creating a fund at the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation. The fund would assist young people who were participating in the Jamestown Rotary Club Exchange Program which the Morrow family subscribed to so strongly.
Since its creation in 1986, the Brenda L. Morrow Memorial Scholarship Fund has benefitted a long list of students. This year's recipients were Nolan Wells and Dana Filsinger, who accepted their scholarship certificates at a recent meeting of the Jamestown Rotary Club. Community Foundation Executive Director Randy Sweeney made the presentation.
