Community Foundation Home to Fund Created in Honor of Long Time Supporter of Area Seniors
Friday, August 19, 2011

The Chautauqua Adult Day Care Centers, Inc. is proud to announce that it has established the Nancy M. Elofson Memorial Adult Day Care Fund with the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation. The fund was established as a tribute to Mrs. Elofson for her long time support for the agency and seniors in the community.

The Nancy M. Elofson Memorial Adult Day Care Fund will provide financial assistance for older adults with Alzheimer's Disease and other memory loss that are in need of attending the Present Center.

The Present Center is a specialized dementia-specific day program in Jamestown offered by the Chautauqua Adult Day Care Centers, Inc. These funds will help seniors who are unable to afford the full cost of the program be able to obtain a much needed service.

Nancy Elofson was a founding Board Member and a member of the original Task Force that was responsible for the agency opening the first Adult Day Care program in Chautauqua County in 1982.  In addition to being there in the beginning days, Mrs. Elofson continued on as Board President and member of the agency Board of Directors until her passing.  She was very active and supportive of the agency expanding its program over the years to currently having four sites that serve all of Chautauqua County. Nancy was a visionary who always had a passion to help caregivers and older adults in the community.

Carol Cooper, a longtime friend and neighbor of Mrs. Elofson was present at the establishment of the fund. She commented, "I am excited for other caregivers who will be able to obtain assistance from this new memorial fund to help them receive a much needed service to help them keep their loved ones with Alzheimer's disease at home. Nancy was always a caring and giving person, and this fund, established in her name, will help continue her lifelong mission of helping the elderly and caregivers in the community. I know the value of the day programs offered by the Chautauqua Adult Day Care Centers, Inc. and this fund will help others be able to receive the same quality care and service I was able to receive".

Chautauqua Adult Day Care Centers, Inc. offers senior day programs for adults sixty years of age and older who live in community. The centers provide socialization and offer many opportunities for clients to participate in activities during the day in a caring friendly atmosphere. Chautauqua Adult Day Care Centers has four sites throughout Chautauqua County located in Westfield, Jamestown, and Dunkirk.
