Community Foundation and Greenway Friends Unite
Monday, January 30, 2012

Chautauqua County officials have worked diligently to clear legal and other details to allow “Friends of Chautauqua County Greenways” to maintain the existing trails of the financially challenged County parks system.

This volunteer group, concerned with the well-being of all the County’s natural recreational assets has established a non-endowed fund at the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation.

“The Friends of Chautauqua County Greenways” mission is to match the pool of volunteer labor and resources with the management and maintenance needs of parks, trails and waterways throughout the County.  Additionally, they will identify trail upgrades that would minimize or eliminate maintenance needs by undertaking sustainable building techniques, re-routing trails, or eliminating trails altogether.

No expense will be incurred by municipalities.  Tax-exempt donations for the purchase of shovels, rakes, chainsaws, lumber, fuel and other materials and tools are being accepted at the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, 418 Spring Street, Jamestown, NY or donations can be made online at the Foundation’s website .
