CRCF EXPO and the Scholarship Process
Friday, October 12, 2007

By Jared Lindell

To many people in the Chautauqua Region, the Community Foundation has become synonymous with the word “scholarships.” This is especially true to local students and their parents. With over $600,000 awarded nearly every year and over 200 active scholarship funds, the Community Foundation certainly makes an impact in the way of educational funding. Inevitably, students and parents are always asking questions about the scholarship process, and there is no better place to get answers than at the CRCF Scholarship EXPO.

This year is the 15th CRCF EXPO: Funding an Education, which takes place in conjunction with Jamestown Community College’s (JCC) College and Career Night. The EXPO provides CRCF representatives an annual opportunity to provide information and direction as to how the CRCF scholarship and financial aid process works. The event gives students and their parents the opportunity to sit through a simple tutorial on the CRCF scholarship process and ask any relevant questions that may arise. This year’s EXPO will be held on Tuesday, October 23, at JCC’s Katharine Jackson Carnahan Center, with two sessions being held at 6:00 PM and 7:15 PM. Admission to both the College and Career Night and the CRCF EXPO is free and open to the public.

By attending the EXPO, there are many specific pieces of information that can be attained to help students and their families when applying for scholarship aid at CRCF. A detailed presentation is given that includes: CRCF scholarship facts, application timelines/deadlines, how to read and fill out scholarship application forms, how to access all relevant information online, and how to read and fill out all financial aid forms. Additionally, the presentation will note a new online scholarship application submission process that CRCF will launch in 2008. This process will allow students to submit all their application information online, if they choose to do so.

The EXPO is designed to benefit any individual seeking scholarship assistance, whether you are a high school student that will enter college for the first time or a college student with years of higher education already under your belt. In either case, Community Foundation representatives will be available to answer any questions or concerns that you might have throughout the course of the night.

When attending the CRCF EXPO, you will also want to take the opportunity to visit JCC’s College and Career Night. The College and Career Night is held at JCC’s Physical Education Complex. College and Career Night showcases many different colleges and career fields, so that students can learn more about their professional and educational interests. Each college and career field features a display table, with representatives to answer questions about the school or the professional field in which you might have an interest. This allows students and parents to research many different colleges and also helps students gain knowledge and understanding of specific professions.
Be sure to mark October 23rd on your calendar and attend the 15th CRCF EXPO and JCC’s College and Career Night. This evening can provide you with a head start on educational funding opportunities and professional interests. If you would like more information regarding the CRCF EXPO, contact the Community Foundation staff at 661-3390.
