John C. “Jack” Bargar

John C. “Jack” Bargar, 87, formerly of 66 Lovall Ave., died Friday, April 14, 2017, in Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation.

An area resident all of his life, he was born Oct. 27, 1929, in Jamestown, the son of the late John and Carol Martin Bargar.

He was a 1948 graduate of Jamestown High School and later graduated from Alfred Extension and the National Fabric Institute, Silver Spring, Md.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Anderson Cleaners as plant manager. He earlier had worked for Valone and Company and Park Cleaning and Laundry where he was part-owner. Altogether his career in dry cleaning spanned 50 years.

He was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church where he served on the pastor/parish relations committee for 15 years. He was one of the founders of Jaycees in Jamestown and served as an executive board member for Methodist Garden Apartments.

Surviving are three sons, Randall (Sheila) Bargar of West Virginia, Donald (Diane) Bargar of Tennessee and Mark (Beth) Bargar of Jamestown; eight grandchildren, Allison (Don) Sanford, Matthew Bargar, Daniella Comber, Aaron Bargar, Chad (Sashene) Bargar, Mandi (Wade) Archer, Alaina (David) Hasbrouck and Lauren (Ryan) Vezina; and five great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wilhelmina “Toots” Ellis Bargar, whom he married Nov. 29, 1952, and who died June 26, 2014; a grandson, Shane Comber; two stepfathers, Lavern Clawson and Gordon Wolfe; and a stepsister, Dorothy Johnson.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Christ Chapel of the Lutheran Home. Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt will officiate.

Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.

Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service in the Friday in Christ Chapel.

Memorials may be made to Jack Bargar Scholarship Fund.
