Arnold Richard “Dick” Johnson, 93, of Jamestown passed away Tuesday (June 20, 2017) in the Lutheran Home.
A native of Jamestown he was born Nov. 9, 1923, the son of Herbert R. Johnson and Hedvig Dahl Johnson.
He was a graduate of Jamestown High School, Kent St. University and Syracuse University. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII. He taught History at Falconer Central School for 30 years and prior to this taught two years at Middlefield, Ohio.
Dick was a member of Zion Covenant Church where he served as a driver and usher. For several years he served as a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society, Office for the Aging and Meals on Wheels.
He was an avid reader. He also liked to camp and with his wife and family had camped throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret L. Chipukaizer Johnson, whom he married June 6, 1954, in Newton Falls, OH; two daughters: Natasha (Allan) Patchen of Knoxville, TN, Anita (Herb) Gaston of Penn Yan, N.Y.; two sons: Bruce (Debbie) Johnson of Mechanicsburg, Pa., Quentin (Mary) Johnson of Falconer; nine grandchildren: Ryan Johnson, Brandon Johnson, Anna Patchen, Andrew Patchen, Simon Gaston, Rachel Gaston, Hannah Gaston, Philip Gaston, Paul Gaston; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Valerie Wilcox of Jamestown.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday (June 27, 2017) in the Falconer Funeral Home. The Rev. Rick Miller pastor of Zion Covenant Church will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Friends will be received by the family from 6-8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be donated to the Arnold R. Johnson Honorary Scholarship Fund or the Falconer Public Library, 101 W. Main St., Falconer, NY 14733.
