A lifelong area resident, she was born April 20, 1927, in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Dennis E. and Verna E. Hartson Lyon.
Doris was a 1945 graduate of Falconer High School, and in earlier years was employed by Jamestown Steel Partitions. Prior to retirement, she was employed by Falconer Printing and Design Inc., retiring in 1995. Doris’s greatest attribute to the Roach Family-owned-business was her proof reading skills and her attention to detail.
Doris was a former member of Levant Wesleyan Church, where she taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school. She currently was a member of Zion Covenant Church. In earlier years, Doris was a member of the Falconer Lions Club Auxiliary having served as president, Falconer PTA, Babe Ruth Baseball having served as treasurer, Elmwood Avenue Ladies Coffee Club and had volunteered for the American Cancer Society and the Red Cross.
Doris loved attending her children’s and grand- children’s sporting activities and concerts. She loved to scrapbook, having cut out numerous articles and pictures of her children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments. Doris enjoyed baking pies every Saturday, jig-saw puzzles and was a proud Cleveland Cavaliers fan.
Surviving are her husband, Maurice E. Roach, whom she married March 26, 1949, in Levant Wesleyan Church; four children: Patricia (Steven) Sandberg of Jamestown, Stephen (Linda) Roach Sr. of Fredonia, Susan (James) Vincent of Jamestown, James (Judith) Roach of Mayville; 11 grandchildren: Erick (Cammy) Sandberg of Jamestown, Nathan (Geraldine) Sandberg, Benjamin Sandberg, all of Portland, Ore., Kimberly (Michael) Myles of Jamestown, Stephen (Candra) Roach Jr. of Jamestown, Ashley Willoughby of Charlotte, N.C., Daniel (Molly) Vincent of Cleveland, Ohio, Kevin Vincent of Long Island, N.Y., Amy Vincent (Kevin Towle) of Queens, N.Y., and Allyson Roach and Erin Roach, both of Jamestown; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kristina M. Roach, who died Jan. 18, 2016; and a sister, Lucile P. Lyon, who died July 28, 2000.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Christ Chapel of Lutheran, 715 Falconer St., Jamestown, N.Y. The Rev. Rick Miller, pastor of Zion Covenant Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday in the Falconer Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service Thursday in Christ Chapel of Lutheran.
