Gene L. Sadowski, 80, of Falconer, passed away Tuesday (March 15, 2016) in his home.
A lifelong area resident, Gene was born Nov. 26, 1935, in Jamestown, the son of the late Eric H. and Frances I. Simmons Sadowski.
Gene was a 1953 graduate of Falconer High School. In 1953, Gene began his employment at Steel Partitions which later became Dowcraft in 1961. He served in many capacities in his 46 years on the job, including founding the DC Rollform division in 1987. Gene was named president of the company in 1991 and retired in 2000.
He was a member of the Samuel Derby Post, American Legion, Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, a charter member of the Lakewood Moose, Chautauqua County Birddog Association, Morning Maniacs Exercise Club, Dowcraft & Ellison Golf League and the former member of Moon Brook Country Club.
Gene enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, restoring and refurbishing furniture, remodeling his home and his children’s homes. He also enjoyed constructing built-in cabinets for his children and toy boxes for his grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with his family on Chautauqua Lake at the family cottage in Mayville. Along with his wife, Pat, they enjoyed spending winters in Cape Coral, Fla. In earlier years, Gene was an avid hunter and fisherman and for most of his life he enjoyed golfing. He was an avid Buffalo Bills fan, and he and his wife enjoyed their season tickets for many years.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Patricia A. Pearson Sadowski, whom he married March 2, 1957, in St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Jamestown; four children: Michael (Shelly) Sadowski of Falconer, Stephen (Diana) Sadowski of Cincinnati, Ohio, Lynn (Ryan) Stefanik of South Dayton, N.Y., and Kathleen (Dana) Lundberg of Frewsburg; four grandchildren: Kimberly (Aaron) Breneman, Alec Sadowski, Claire Sadowski and Megan Stefanik; a great-grand- child, Alexander Breneman; a brother, Roger (Sandra) Sadowski of Kennedy; a brother-in-law, Richard Pearson of Charlotte, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1971; his mother in 2010; and a sister, Janet O. Sadowski in 2006.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 19, in the Falconer Funeral Home. The Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt, chaplain of Lutheran Home, will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer.
