Rosalie H. Pembridge

Rosalie H. Pembridge, 92, of Lakewood, formerly of Bemus Point, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017, in UMPC Chautauqua WCA, after a brief illness.

She was born Aug. 5, 1925, in Jamestown, the daughter of the late George and Anna Linnea Anderson Hedberg.

She was a graduate of Celoron High School, Elmira College and earned a master’s degree in nursing from the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

Her working career began as a cake decorator alongside her father at Hedberg’s Bakery. She was a registered nurse affiliated with hospitals first in Cleveland and later in Jamestown. She served for 50 years as chief financial officer of Chautauqua Chemicals Company Inc., which she and her late husband founded in 1951.

She was active in Creche, Norden Women’s Club and AAUW and was a lifetime member of the Chautauqua Bird, Tree and Garden Club and the Chautauqua Women’s Club.

She enjoyed spending summers at Chautauqua Institution and many seasons on Kiawah Island, S.C. Wherever she spent her time it was always all about family.

Surviving are five children: Cheryl (John) Larkin of Basking Ridge, N.J., Stephen (Patricia) Pembridge of Placitas, N.M., Tom (Amy Adam) Pembridge of Jamestown, Tim (Cathy) Pembridge of Westlake, Ohio and Laura (Brad) Currie of Nashville, Tenn.; 18 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Donald Pembridge, whom she married Oct. 23, 1948, and who died November 8, 2000; and two brothers: Richard and Ramon Hedberg.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. Deacon Daniel Tyler will officiate.

Friends will be received from 1-2:30 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Donald and Rosalie Pembridge Fund at the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, 418 Spring St., Jamestown 14701 or the Donald and Rosalie Pembridge Fund at Chautauqua Institution, c/o Chautauqua Foundation, P.O. Box 28, One Ames Ave., Chautauqua, NY 14722.

You may leave words of condolence at Lind Funeral Home.
