Nina Karbacka, Suzuki teacher, and Sadie Anderson, student volunteer, look on as Dr. Joseph Kneer, professor of violin at Mercyhurst University, instructed students enrolled in Summer Suzuki 2015. In addition to Dr. Kneer, students received training from Pam Vetry, fiddle, and Brittany Bush, ballet and cello. Tyler Eighmeny and Marie Karbacka also presented a class on the composer Mozart. In addition, Ms. Karbacka, a graduate student at SUNY Fredonia, taught daily classes designed to develop students’ aural skills.
At the end of July, participants traveled to Chautauqua Institution to visit Carolyn Benton, learn the history of the Bell Tower, and enjoy a chime performance. Later in the evening, students attended a rehearsal of the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra. A grant from the Fund for the Region helped make this unique opportunity possible by assisting with tuition expenses.
