An unexpected spring-like day in early November, allowed the Village of Lakewood Tree Planting Committee to plant 11 Callery Pear trees around LaGrega Park.
According to Dick Rose, committee chairman, the trees planted around the park will, one day, provide adequate shade for visitors. Rose and the committee worked closely with local forestry consultant Bruce Robinson to select the types of trees best suited for the empty space. The committee also plans on planting trees on Locust Street, at the Community Park Boat Launch, Veterans Park and Hartley Park this year.
A grant form the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation’s Axel W. Carlson Memorial Fund provided additional funds to support this year’s planting.
