Tony Dolce
For three generations of Jamestown High School (JHS) students, Mr. Dolce was a familiar face in the classroom, at school events, on the baseball field and cross-country course, and throughout the community he called home.
Now, his commitment to young people will continue through the Anthony “Tony” Dolce Scholarship Fund, recently established at the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation by his family.
A 1979 JHS graduate, Tony returned to his alma mater as a history and government teacher, serving students until his retirement in 2024. Throughout his career, he was deeply involved in student life, advising classes, overseeing Student Organization and coaching baseball and cross country. His commitment to service extended throughout the City of Jamestown. Tony represented Ward 2 on City Council for more than three decades, served his church and numerous community organizations, and remained a devoted musician, athlete, and advocate for the city he called home.
Those many pieces of Tony’s life are reflected in the scholarship created in his memory. The Fund will support graduating JHS seniors who are involved in a variety of activities including athletics, music, and student government, with priority given to students who are part of the baseball or cross-country teams.
“Tony dedicated so much of his life to helping others, especially students,” said Anne Dolce, Tony’s wife. “I know how much it would mean to him to see his legacy continue through opportunities for students to pursue their dreams. Our family is incredibly grateful that his love for this community will live on through this scholarship.”
“Our dad loved this community and believed in it,” said Christian Dolce and Amelia Witkowski, Tony’s children. “We saw the man behind the responsibilities who cared deeply for his family. He taught us that a meaningful life isn’t measured by how much you accumulate for yourself but by how much of yourself you are willing to give to others. This scholarship serves as a reminder to continue giving to others.”
Tony spent a lifetime showing up for others. Through this Fund, his legacy will continue doing the same for generations of students to come.
